Smartphone wars are getting fiercer. Both Apple and Samsung are battling it out for dominance in this keenly contested smartphone segment. According to a Reuters Poll Samsung will dethrone Apple at the end of the second quarter.
Already Samsung has increased its lead over Apple, thanks to its latest flagship model Galaxy III. The poll reveals aggressive sales and marketing campaigns have paid dividends for Samsung.
Although Apple and Samsung have locked horns for a while to be the leader in the smartphone segment, the gap between the two was marginal. According to analysts, that marginal gap is set to increase for Samsung towards the end of second quarter this year.
According to Frank Jeronimo, IDC analyst, “Samsung is expected to be the smartphone hero in the second quarter”. He further added “ We are also expecting to see the biggest smartphone volumes ever shipped from one single vendor in one quarter, driven by strong demand of the Galaxy portfolio, particularly the Galaxy S II and S III”. Forecast sales reveal Samsung is expected to sell in excess of 50 million smartphones as compared with Apple’s forecast sales of over 30.5 million.
