Consumers would love to see Samsung and Apple resolve their patent wars and compete like brothers in arms, but it is unlikely to happen soon with the way things are going. A judge overseeing the lawsuit asked Apple and Samsung to simplify the ongoing dispute and also ordered the Chief Executives of both parties to settle terms with talks before the jury begins deliberating.
As expected, it was impossible to convince both parties. Both Samsung and Apple have said that they were unable to resolve patent issues with out-of-court talks. Both companies have filed lawsuits against the other on various claims. Compensation claimed on some law suits in regard with product design and lost profits of its products made by Apple have exceeded the 2.5 billion.
Samsung has counter sued Apple for damages in regard with infringement of several of its basic patents. In an e-mail, Law Professor Mark Lemely of Stanford University said” I think it’s too late to hold out much hope that the parties will settle before the jury comes back”. When there is a settlement, and there will be, it will be a global deal involving more than just this case”.
