The emergence of cheap PC tablets and smartphones has not been able to stop Apple from moving ahead. The iPad and iPhone maker has surpassed its competition in both number of products sold, and revenue earned. HP that was leading the pack was dethroned by Apples’ aggressive marketing strategies. Apple reported a record breaking sale of over 20 million for the fourth quarter of 2011 with 5.2 million sales of Mac units and 15.4 million sales of iPad units.
In the smartphone segment, Apple left its competition high and dry by selling a staggering 37 million phones. HP that reported worldwide sales of 14.7 million was pushed to second spot. Lenovo came in third reporting a sale of 12.9 and multinational information technology corporation Dell reported a worldwide sale of 11.5 million for the fourth quarter of 2011. Analysts and industry experts had speculated sales for Apple would fall with the emergence of cheaper computing devices, however, that wasn’t to be.
