Apple tops smartpone rankings, followed by Samsung, Nokia and BlackBerry

According to latest data from International Data Corporation, a US based analysis firm, Apple smartphones are now number 1 in the industry while RIM BlackBerry has gone down to 4th position.

Apple has exported over 20.3 million iPhones which was mentioned during its first quarter results announced at the end of last month. This has staked their claim of being number 1 in the smartphone segment. International Data Corporation has declared Apple as No. 1 in a report released on Thursday.

106.5 million smartphone's units were sold throughout the world. Research In Motion only shipped out 12.4 million BlackBerry units, which made its market share slip to 4th place. Samsung came in at number two while Nokia took third place. Samsung shipped 17.3 million smartphones while Nokia shipped 16.7 million.

Speaking on this ranking of smartphone manufacturers, Mr. Kevin Restivo, a senior research analyst at International data Corporation said that this line up could change at any time depending on sales as smartphone market is a fast growing segment subject to fluctuations in popularity of brands.
