Apple’s iPhone has stamped it’s authority in the smartphone market. The iPhone is flawless, which is why analysts, industry experts and consumers refuse to categorize it under the smartphone segment, but rather call it an entity in a league of its own. The fourth quarter of 2011 spelled doom for Android smartphones. However, that wasn’t surprising because if you’re competing against Apple’s iPhone you’ve got to have a product that at least matches up in terms of functionality if not anything else.
Sadly wasn’t to be for Android sellers. Apple proved its dominance in the smartphone segment selling an astonishing 37 million iPhones worldwide. AT&T the second largest wireless carrier in the U.S. activated 9.4 million devices out of which an unbelievable 7.6 million activations were for iPhone. Android smartphone vendors couldn’t do much but watch helplessly as Apple ruined their Christmas. The iPhone became the most gifted device between October and January of 2011. Will a smartphone emerge that’s worthy of competition against Apple’s iPhone in the near future?
