Multinational computer technology corporation Dell has revealed it will be spending over $700 million globally on research and development. Although General Manager and Vice-President Dell Networking, Dario Zamarian has not disclosed the figure allocated for R&D in India, analysts believe it will be a substantial figure considering the large revenues Dell India brings in.
The data center business in India is valued at over $300 million and India is the fourth largest country in data center businesses in Asia after, China, Japan and Singapore. Dells’ Research and Development Center at Chennai will be converted to Center of Excellence in Networking.
The new role as the Center of excellence would be to enhance Dell’s expertise in various segments such as networking operating systems, switching, routing, reference architecture and network management. Dell already has similar centers in San Jose and Texas in United States. Dario Zamarian said” Globally, there is now a $ 7 billion opportunity in the data center market and a total of $20 billion in networking. With the integration of Force 10 into Dell, we have expanded the market”.
