Mapping services of Google for mobile devices is getting an upgrade. The internet search giant is aware that tablet maker Apple will be soon offering mapping services for its line of devices. Google’s map updates marks an improvement on listings of public transportation options for Android device users.
The recent update includes departure times for over 1 million stations worldwide and suggested routes, this amounting to a 50% increase as compared to last year. This change comes at a time when Apple has revealed that it will offer its users its own mapping service on its upcoming line of iPhone and iPad.
Initially Google is offering map updates only on devices running its Android OS. Companies benefitting from Google map update would be Sony, Samsung, HTC and Motorola Mobility, a division of Google. If Apple users take a liking to Apple’s very own mapping service, it will be a blow for Google who will stand to lose a chunk of mobile advertising revenue.
