Security experts have revealed a significant number of people in US and rest of the world may lose internet access as a result of a government fix that expires soon. A year back many users’ computers were infected with malware.
This malware created by cyber criminals, known as DNS changer, caused havoc by redirecting Internet traffic by hijacking systems domain names on web browsers. DNS Virus that came into being in 2007 was shut down in 2011 after prolonged FBI investigations. As the virus had controlled a major chunk of internet traffic, authorities had obtained court permission on allowing FBI to make use of replacement servers to ensure normalcy in internet traffic.
The two replacement servers are expected to shutdown in the second week of July. Experts point out; computers infected with this virus will face a blackout. This Internet Doomsday is expected to be the darkest moment in internet history.
Although internet service providers, security firms ,FBI, and Google and Facebook amongst other have been warning users about the episode and directing them to an appropriate fix, it is unlikely that that everybody takes action with immediate effect. Both individual’s consumers and Fortune 500 companies are likely to take a hit because of internet doomsday.
