On Sunday Chief Minister Jayalalithaa of Tamil Nadu gave an approval on one time purchase of laptops or personal computers along with secured internet connections and printers for all MLAs. The money for the laptops or personal computers will be paid through the constituency development fund. It should be known that during the revised budget estimate 2011-2012 Ms Jayalalithaa had increased the constituency fund to RS 2 Crore.
Jayalalithaa is encouraging MLAs to purchase laptops or personal computers because it will help MLAs be better equipped with facts and reasons, and also participate in a more organized way during Assembly debates. With assembly sessions scheduled to start soon, laptops and personal computers purchased from their constituency development fund will certainly help in preparing the points and issues to be debated. Although not many MLAs have purchased laptops or personal computers, a few have opted for laptops. Time will tell whether MLAs would be keen on spending on laptops or personal computers from their constituency development fund.
