The Galaxy S II while awaiting its US launch has gone on to record positive sales volumes in other markets having sold over 5 million units till date. To counter its heavy price tag, Samsung brings on a cheaper S2 variant, the Galaxy R. This is in line with their Galaxy SL launch last year, which too was a cheaper variant.
A video demo highlighted the new Galaxy R features. It wears a 4.2" Super Clear LCD display in comparison to the Samsung Galaxy S2 Super AMOLED Plus display. The Galaxy R will be fitted with a 1 GHz dual core chipset as compared to the 1.2 GHz dual core Exynos chipset that comes with the Galaxy S 2. The Galxy R will come with 8 GB of built in storage and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Social Hub, Games Hub, Music Hub, and Reader Hub will not be sacrificed, and neither will the 5 MP camera capable of recording 720p video be axed.
The Galaxy R is more a hardware altered variant and may attract buyers with its reduced price parameter. The new Galaxy R falls in the range of the LG Optimus 2x but as of now there’s no official confirmation regarding launch date or Galaxy R price.
