When you talk about eco friendly designs in computers there are few you can think of, and most of those few wear a guise of being eco friendly. Finally, there is a PC that you can call eco friendly. The Iameco (I Am Eco) made from wood is has been given the tag ‘the most environmentally friendly PC on the planet” by experts, designers and developers.
The touchscreen has a wooden frame. The copper piping designs form an integral part of the heat sink which saves on energy and reduces the buzzing sound. 98 percent of the parts in this PC can be recycled. The Iameco designed by German scientists has won an EU Ecolabel ‘Flower’ award, the first of its kind to do so. Irish firm MicroPro based in Dublin responsible for the unique Iameco has gone great lengths researching to ensure majority of the parts used in the PC can be recycled.
The firm has been incorporating wood in its technology products for a number of years and will be starting production of the Iameco soon. The design which was conceptualized by Boffins at Berlin’s Fraunhofer Institute IZM has been revamped and taken to the next level. Alexander Schlosser, Scientist, IZM said ‘This touchscreen PC has very low energy consumption over the entire lifecycle of the unit-starting from production, through the use phase to its ultimate recycling.” The German-Irish collaboration has already started work on eco-friendly notebook.
